ED attaches Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s properties worth ₹11.5 crore in land scam case

According to sources, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has placed a temporary attachment on eight land plots in Alibaug and a flat in Mumbai’s Dadar district belonging to Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut and his family under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The attachment, according to ED authorities, is linked to a money laundering investigation into a Rs 1,034 crore land ‘scam’ involving the reconstruction of a ‘chawl’ in Mumbai.

In February, the ED detained Maharashtra-based businessman Pravin Raut and filed a chargesheet against him. In connection with the Dawood Ibrahim money laundering investigation, the ED also arrested Maharashtra Minister and NCP politician Nawab Malik.

Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha Raut was also questioned by the agency last year in connection with another money laundering case relating to the PMC Bank fraud case, as well as her alleged ties to Pravin Raut’s wife Madhuri.

According to Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, the Mumbai Police started a probe into a criminal conspiracy and extortion racket by a nexus of ED personnel in March.

SIT to probe extortion allegations raised by Sanjay Raut against some ED officers.

On Tuesday, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into charges of extortion levelled by Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut against several Enforcement Directorate (ED) employees.

“The SIT has been formed under an officer named Veeresh Prabhu. We have given the SIT the time required to probe the matter,” he told the reporters.

In a press conference last month, Raut said that some Enforcement Directorate officers were serving as the BJP’s “ATM.”
He also stated that the Mumbai Police were investigating extortion accusations against four Central Agency officers, adding that some of them will be sentenced to prison.

The Shiv Sena MP didn’t reveal any names while making the allegations.

“In the last few years, some ED officials and agents have been involved in extortion, threatening builders and corporates. I have passed on this information to the prime minister,” he had said.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government is led by the Shiv Sena, with the NCP and Congress as constituents. The SIT was announced against the backdrop of reports that the Shiv Sena’s leadership believed the NCP was going “soft” on the BJP.
