IPL 2023: What is the current status of the teams to Qualify for the Playoffs? Know it here

The Indian Premier League’s current season is approaching its critical phase, with teams competing fiercely to secure a spot in the playoffs. At present, none of the ten teams have qualified, and the competition remains wide open. However, the situation is likely to become clearer from May 10th onwards. In the 55th match of IPL 2023, scheduled to take place at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Delhi Capitals will face CSK in a must-win game. If DC loses this match, their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage will be significantly reduced.

Just like these teams, several others are also hanging in the balance. With the high-stakes matches approaching, let’s review what each of the 10 teams must do to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Chennai Super Kings:

CSK currently has 13 points after playing 11 matches, and they only require two victories in their remaining three matches to secure a spot in the playoffs. However, if they only manage to win one out of the last three matches, they will have to rely on the outcomes of other teams as well.

CSK is scheduled to play against the Delhi Capitals on May 10, followed by matches against the Kolkata Knight Riders on May 14 and the Delhi Capitals again on May 20.

Mumbai Indians:

On Tuesday night, Mumbai Indians triumphed over RCB and climbed to the No. 3 spot in the IPL 2023 points table. To secure a direct berth in the playoffs, they need to win their upcoming three matches. However, if they manage to win two out of their remaining three games, they’ll still have to depend on the outcomes of other teams.

MI’s next three games are against the Gujarat Titans on May 12, followed by the Lucknow Super Giants on May 16, and lastly, the Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 21.

Gujarat Titans:

GT currently holds the top spot in the IPL 2023 points table with 16 points from 11 matches played. They are poised to make it to the playoffs for the second consecutive season, requiring only one win from their remaining three matches to guarantee their spot in the playoffs. In the event of losing all three, they can still progress to the playoffs if other teams fail to surpass them in both points and net run rate.

Upcoming matches for GT include fixtures against the Mumbai Indians on May 12, Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 15, and Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 21.

Lucknow Super Giants:

LSG currently has 11 points from 11 matches and in order to secure a spot in the playoffs, they must win all three of their upcoming matches. If they are successful in achieving three consecutive victories, they will earn a playoff spot. However, failing to do so will mean that they will have to rely on the outcomes of other teams to determine their playoff fate. LSG’s upcoming matches are scheduled against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 13th, Mumbai Indians on May 16th, and Kolkata Knight Riders on May 20th.

Punjab Kings:

The Punjab Kings have a chance to accumulate 16 points by winning their remaining three matches. However, this may not guarantee them a spot in the playoffs. PBKS will need to win their matches by a significant margin to improve their net run rate and hope for favorable outcomes from other team’s matches.

PBKS is scheduled to play their next three games against the Delhi Capitals on May 13 and May 17, and the Rajasthan Royals on May 19.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Sunrisers Hyderabad still has four matches left to play in the ongoing tournament, and to have any chance of making it to the playoffs, they must win all of them. Additionally, they will need to closely monitor the outcomes of other teams’ matches as well.

In their upcoming matches, SRH will face off against the Lucknow Super Giants on May 13, followed by games against the Gujarat Titans on May 15, the Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 18, and finally, the Mumbai Indians on May 21.

Delhi Capitals:

Despite occupying the last position on the IPL 2023 points table, the Delhi Capitals have a chance to make it to the playoffs. However, they must win all four of their remaining matches and also rely on other teams to do them some favors. The Delhi Capitals are scheduled to play against the Chennai Super Kings on May 10, followed by two matches against the Punjab Kings on May 13 and 17, and then another match against the Chennai Super Kings on May 20.

Rajasthan Royals:

The situation for the Royals can be summarized as follows: in order to stay in the tournament, they need to win all of their remaining three matches. If they fail to do so, they will be eliminated unless the top four teams in the standings also lose points.

RR’s upcoming fixtures are against the Kolkata Knight Riders (on May 11), the Royal Challengers Bangalore (on May 14), and the Punjab Kings (on May 19).

Kolkata Knight Riders:

KKR, much like the Royals, have accumulated 10 points from 11 matches, and to secure a spot in the playoffs, they must win all of their next three matches. These matches are against RR, CSK, and LSG, all of whom are also vying for a place in the top 4. Any outcome other than a victory in these matches will result in KKR being eliminated from the race.

In the upcoming schedule, KKR is set to play against the Rajasthan Royals on May 11, followed by matches against the Chennai Super Kings on May 14 and the Lucknow Super Giants on May 20.

Royal Challengers Bangalore:

RCB is currently placed seventh in the IPL 2023 points table with 10 points from 11 matches and a net run rate of -0.345. To secure a spot in the IPL 2023 playoffs, RCB must win all of their remaining three matches and also rely on other teams to not exceed a total of 16 points.

The upcoming fixtures for RCB are against the Rajasthan Royals on May 14, Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18, and Gujarat Titans on May 21.
