Even the film’s leading lady, Anne Hathaway, shares the same sentiments as the fans. In an interview with People in January 2023, she expressed understanding of their frustration, stating, “We feel exactly the same way. It’s a process that demands patience, and now everyone should consider themselves part of the movie industry because this is the actual time it takes to create something.”
Princess Diaries 3 Plot
If the movie continues Mia’s story, there are several potential directions it could take, considering that the sequel deviated significantly from the books. In the original book, Mia eventually marries her best friend’s brother, Michael, after a long-term relationship. However, Robert Schwartzman, who portrayed Michael in the first movie, did not reprise his role in the sequel, and Chris Pine took on the character of Lord Nicholas Devereaux, Mia’s love interest and a potential heir to the Genovian throne.
After Mia became the Queen of Genovia, she amended the law to allow anyone to rule, regardless of marital status. It was during this time that Nicholas expressed his love for her, while Julie Andrews’s character proposed to her bodyguard, Joe, portrayed by Héctor Elizondo. Will Anne Hathway Return? Princess Diaries 3 Cast
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), there is currently no agreement in place for Anne Hathaway to return as Princess Mia Thermopolis. However, Hathaway has expressed her desire to reprise the role and has shown support for a third installment.
In an interview with ET in October 2022, Hathaway stated, “I would be thrilled to make it happen. If there’s any way we could involve Julie Andrews, we would do whatever it takes. We would even travel to her location, set up a green screen, and make it work.”
Julie Andrews, on the other hand, believes that a sequel is unlikely due to the significant amount of time that has passed. In an interview with THR, she explained, “There were discussions about a sequel many years ago, but I don’t think it ever materialized. Unfortunately, Garry Marshall, the director, has since passed away in 2016.”
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Mandy Moore, who portrayed Mia’s rival Lana Thomas, also expressed her openness to filming a sequel.
