White House To Provide 400 Million Free N95 Masks Nationwide

Beginning next week, the Biden administration will make 400 million N95 masks available for free to Americans, noting their superior protection against the Omicron strain of COVID-19 compared to fabric face covers.

The masks will come from the government’s Strategic National Stockpile, which has more than 750 million of the extremely protective masks on standby, according to the White House.

The masks will be available at drugstores and health centres across the United States. The White House announced that they will start distributing this week, with circulation beginning late next week.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak began, the federal government has distributed the most free masks to the population. The administration of then-President Donald Trump discussed and then cancelled plans to mail masks to all Americans at their residences in early 2020.

As the highly infectious omicron variety spread all across the country this month, President Biden promoted the idea after facing rising outcry over the lack of accessibility — both in terms of supply and cost — of N95 masks.

“I know we all wish that we could finally be done with wearing masks. I get it, ” Biden said last week in remarks on his administration’s coronavirus response.” But there is a — they’re a really important tool to stop the spread, especially of the highly transmittable Omicron variant. So, please, wear the mask.”

Beyond Maks, President Biden also opened a website this week for Americans to purchase four rapid tests to be mailed to their homes for free, following similar complaints over a wintertime shortage of COVID-19 at-home test kits. The first tests will ship later in the month.
